If water were ink
Inspired by Jess Collins' painting 'If All the World Were Paper and All the Water Ink,' I wanted my piece to carry a message as do Collins’ paintings. Every animal in my composition is on the Endangered Species List — emerging from a young girl's paintbrush, the only colored figure in the piece. She represents the living world. The animals, rendered without color, represent death and disappearance.
Created for Discarded to Divine — an annual charity event hosted by the De Young Museum and the St. Vincent de Paul Society — the piece was built entirely from recycled materials, auctioned for charity, and displayed at the De Young Museum in San Francisco.
